Catalogue text

This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Bula’bula Arts that states: ‘Bottles, both painted and in woven form, have occurred in Djunginy’s repertoire since mid 1983. Living at the outstation of Mulgurrum at the time, Djunginy was incouragrd [sic] to make woven bottle shapes by former Arts Advisor to Bula’bula Arts, Djon Mundine OAM. This inspiration came from Italian Chianti bottles, and soon Djunginy was producing both woven and painted bottle forms. “My bottles represent happy times…. for black people and white people the same…. “ (Djunginy, 2011). Djunginy is the only artist from this area to be producing and painting bottles.’
